First Penance is celebrated on a yearly basis with the second grade community. The preparation includes parent training and significant involvement in assisting children in the understanding of the sacrament. Each child is brought to the sacrament through the cooperation of the priests, Director of Faith Formation, parents and the catechist.

Older children who have not received the above sacrament are invited to share in the preparation. They serve as assistants to the catechist while in the learning process. Some children are prepared by a team of catechists individually.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation

First Gathering October 23, 2010

The Preparation Process: A Partnership in Faith

Christ Our Life Reconciliation Program Philosophy:

“Reconciliation is the sacrament of making peace. Eucharist is the sacrament of communion. These sacraments call children to love and forgive as Jesus teaches, to find companions who also follow Jesus’ way, and to participate in the community that nourishes our quest for unity and peace.”

• Each family will faithfully attend Mass each week to prepare spiritually for the sacraments. Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a very  positive experience for the children. Please mark the dates for CLW. They are attached to the yearly calendar.

• Pastor, Pastoral Associate, parent, child and catechist will cooperate fully in the preparation process.

• Parents are responsible for preparing your child with the information stated below.

• The catechist teaches the material from the child’s text and reinforces the prayers, the Ten Commandments and the Act of Contrition or the prayer of sorrow.

• The child preparing for the sacraments is expected to know the Sign of the Cross, The Our Father, The Hail Mary, the Glory Be to the Father, The Ten Commandments and the Two Great Commandments and the Act of Contrition or the Prayer of Sorrow.

• Each child must be faithful in attending his/her religious education faith community each week.

• Parent is asked to read all of the resources given at gatherings. The most important resources are: your child’s text and the child’s reconciliation booklet.
