Jesus, Light Our Way

There is a story told of some “westerners” who hired a few native guides to help them travel through the Kalahari Desert. Not being accustomed to the pace that the employers of the tour were expecting, the tour guides sat down to rest, and no amount of persuasion could induce them to continue the journey. “The reason for the much needed rest,” they explained, “was they had to wait for their souls to catch up to their bodies.” Truly celebrating Advent can allow us to let our souls catch up to our bodies and spirits.

We are seekers looking for an opportunity to celebrate this beautiful season of Advent from a resting place rather than a harried, multi-tasking one. We are seekers looking for an increase of light in our lives. Let us ponder the Sacred Scriptures of the season and savor the rich meaning of God’s Word in our lives. Let us reflect on the amazing journey of Mary and Joseph and the journey of our own hearts amidst the hectic times, the stresses that consume us, upsets in the world, amidst the difficulties we are facing and the obstacles that have been placed before us. Even in their trials, they looked up and trusted.

O come, O come Emmanuel!!! In the midst of all life there is a deeper longing within us that must not be ignored. Let us be present to THIS MOMENT, THIS HOPE, THIS LIGHT, THIS JOURNEY. DO NOT LOSE HEART!!

May you have a Blessed Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

Turkey Dinner Collection

Our annual turkey dinner collection for our sisters and brothers in Wethersfield took place on Saturday, November 18th t at the Emerson- Williams School. Grades K-8 donated $400.30 to Wethersfield Social Services.  The combined efforts of our Community of Believers certainly made an impact on the lives of the less fortunate. Our families at all levels once again responded to the Gospel message of love and compassion.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a wonderful ministry for our children. Please join others in worship each weekend as we continue to center our lives in the Eucharist. Children’s Liturgy occurs every other weekend according to your calendars. There will be a very special CLW on Sunday, December 3rd after the 10:30 am as the Men’s Association is hosting a wonderful Christmas party for all children. Father Moran will read a special story. A wonderful magician will be with us and of course Santa Claus. Free pictures with Santa will be taken also. It will be a wonderful celebration. . The CLW gatherings will be Sunday, December 20th  at the 10:30am Mass. The CLW schedule is on our website at www.thechurchoftheincarnation.com

We are aware that many families do not attend Mass on a regular basis or many not at all. Gathering together as Catholic Christians once a week offers us all a chance, no matter what age, to hear God’s Word and take it into our lives, especially in this confused and difficult world. The Eucharist offers us the presence of Jesus received and the reality of bringing the love and peace of Christ out into the world. We encourage families to come home to Christ this Advent and beyond. Come and see what gifts the Lord has for us all. COME HOME!

Angel Tree

Once again, this beautiful ministry has touched many families and worthy organizations. We are so grateful to our parishioners and our Confirmation candidates for your incredible outpouring. Thank you to the Carcia family for bringing this ministry to us. Thank you to our Confirmation candidates 2018 for your excellent assistance to help sort the many gifts given.

The Lighting of the Advent Wreath

All families and Faith Formation communities are encouraged to sign-up to be Advent wreath lighters.  We encourage all age levels to light the wreath. This is a beautiful custom to celebrate the coming of our Savior. The sign-up poster is in the Narthex.” I am the light of the world” says the Lord! John 8:12

Staying in Touch with Faith Formation Lessons

We are very blessed to have an amazing curriculum entitled “Christ Our Life”  This is taught from K-grade 6. Our children in fifth grade receive the Break Through Bible every year. Scripture Study plays an important role in our approach. Our catechists spend many hours preparing and presenting wonderful lessons of faith. Please take your child’s book and well-planned activities from the catechist out of the folder each week and go over the lesson that they have been taught and complete the activities as a family. Children need to study the faith and the life of the church. Faith formation is a supportive part of family life. Parents are the primary educators in the faith. Just think, it is a way for adults to renew their knowledge of our Catholic Christian faith and learn about how it impacts our daily lives.

Kid’s Café Outreach

Once again our elementary faith formation communities and our youth Ministry teens are preparing Goodie Bags for Christmas for the children who are blessed to have a nutritious meal each day from Kid’s Café in Hartford. Over 600 children are fed each day from this ministry. A flyer will be sent to all families.

Confirmation 2017

72 teens and 3 adults were confirmed by Bishop Peter A. Rosazza, D.D. on Sunday, November 19th. It was a very beautiful moment in time. They indeed were missionaries for Christ as they raised $1,050.00 to provide SEVEN goats for the people of Haiti. They were sent last week. Thank you Lord for the wonderful, good works of our youth.

A Christmas Blessing

May there be harmony in all relationships. May sharp words, envious thoughts and hostile feelings be dissolved. May you give and receive love generously. May this love echo in your heart like the joy of church bells on a clear December day. May each person who comes into your life be greeted as another Christ. May the honor given the Babe of Bethlehem be that which you extend to every guest who enters your presence. May the hope of this sacred season settle in your soul. May it be a foundation of courage for you when times of distress occupy your inner land. May the wonder and awe that fills the eyes of children be awakened within you. May it lead you to renewed awareness and appreciation of whatever you too easily take for granted. May the bonds of love for one another be strengthened as you gather with your family and friends around the table of festivity and nourishment. May you daily open the gift of your life and be grateful for the hidden treasures it contains. May the coming year be one of good health for you. May you have energy and vitality. May you care well for your body, mind and spirit. May you keep your eye on the star within you and trust this luminescent Presence to guide and direct you each day. May you go to the Bethlehem of your heart and visit the One who offers you peace. May you bring this peace to the world.   ‘Out of the Ordinary” by Joyce Rupp

Let love and compassion be our guide. And may we pray to Our Blessed Mother, our Queen of Peace, for the safety of all people. Shalom. -Noranne S. Wamester
